A steadier way to start the year

Toward the end of last year I took time offline to rest, travel and regroup.

What began as a short break extended further than planned - and instead of forcing myself to “keep up,” I chose to return when my energy and focus were aligned.

That experience reinforced something I see so often in my coaching and workplace programs:

🍃We push through, we keep saying yes and our battery runs low long before we realise it.

So rather than starting 2026 with resolutions or pressure, here’s a grounded way to reset. It’s one that helps you protect your energy, attention and capacity.

The January “Battery” Check

Take five to ten minutes. Think of your body like your phone. How well charged is it? Be honest and practical rather than critical.

1. Where is your battery right now?

On a scale of 0 – 100%, check in across three areas:

  • Physical

  • Mental

  • Emotional

You’re not grading yourself. You’re getting accurate data about your current capacity.

2. What’s been draining you?

Look for the real load - rather than just the obvious tasks.

Ask yourself:

  • Where have I been “always on,” even when I’m off the clock?

  • What small, constant demands never seem to stop?

  • Which expectations or responsibilities feel heavier than they should?

Most people discover it isn’t one big stressor - it’s accumulation without recovery.

3. Choose one clear recharge action for this month

Not five! Resist the desire for a whole lifestyle overhaul. Make one decision that meaningfully supports your energy.

Examples:

  • A firm clock-off time three days a week

  • One true lunch break each work day (no multitasking)

  • Saying no to one task that doesn’t need to be yours

  • Going to bed 20 minutes earlier on weeknights

Write it down. Treat it as a commitment to your future self.

Small, consistent energy wins beat heroic efforts EVERY time.

Thank you for being part of this work.

Whether you joined a workshop, engaged me for your workplace, worked with me one-to-one, or quietly read along in the background - thank you.

The decisions you make about your own wellbeing don’t just benefit you. They strengthen families, teams and communities. That ripple effect matters.

What I’ll be sharing this year

In 2026 my focus remains practical and outcomes-driven:

  • Managing stress before it spills over

  • Boundary-setting that supports health and leadership

  • Protecting attention so decisions and performance improve

  • Approaching tough conversations with clarity and confidence - reducing avoidance, staying steady under pressure and strengthening trust at work

Short, workable tools,  with occasional deeper dives when they’re useful.
